Ramadan Reflections: Day 21

We’ve quickly moved into the last ten days of Ramadan. I feel the pressure building up and its hard not to feel regret at that one hour, that one minute lost and wasted.  There’s increasing hope of witnessing Laylat Al Qadr, the worship of which is equal to eighty three years!  It is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam to strive even harder in the last ten days of Ramadan with extra prayers and recitation of the Quran. It really is an opportunity never to be missed, if only we recognized it’s true value.

Verily! We have sent it (this Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). And what will make you know what the night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is?

The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months (i.e. worshipping Allah in that night is better than worshipping Him a thousand months, (i.e. 83 years and 4 months).

Therein descend the angels and the Ruh [Jibrael] by Allah’s Permission with all Decrees,Peace! (All that night, there is Peace and Goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appearance of dawn. (Surah Al Qadr)

Ibn ‘Abbas and others have said, “Allah sent down the Quran down all at one time from the Lawh Al Mahfoodh to the Baytal ‘Izzah, which is in the heaven of this world. Then it came down in parts to the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam based upon the incidents that occurred over a period of twenty three years.”

Abu Hurayrah radhiallahu ‘anh narrated that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,

إن الملائكة تلك الليلة في الأرض أكثر من عدد الحصى

“Indeed, during that night, the angels on earth are more than the number of pebbles.” (Narrated Ahmad)

So when does this night fall?

Aisha radhiallahu ‘anha narrated that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,

تحروا ليلة القدر في الوتر من العشر الأواخر من رمضان

Search for the night of Al Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan. (Narrated Bukhari)

He showers His mercy on us yet we turn away, He blesses us from above us and below us yet we disobey. We are indefinitely needy for His love and protection, and His favor of being from His chosen servants. It is not our deeds that will help us to reach this status, rather, its His Rahmah, His Mercy. His Generosity descends upon us while our evil ascends to Him.

Take this opportunity from Him. Beg Him, cry to Him, nag Him, insist on being forgiven. Repent, regret, and don’t give up. Remember that He is closest to His slaves in their sujood. Water the ground with your tears and don’t raise your head until every single wish, every single prayer, every single confession has been let out. Pour your heart out to him and don’t hold back. Be sincere.

اللهم اجعلنا ممن قام ليلة القدر إيمانا و احتسابا فغفرت له ما تقدم من ذنبه و لا تجعلنا من المحرومين و لا عن رحمتك من المطرودين يا رب العالمين
