Ramadan Reflections: Day 13

Bismillah.

The moment I’ve been waiting for is finally here! A chance to pray in Shaikh Muhammad Al-Muhaisny’s masjid for a second year in a row! Subhanallah, it wasn’t so long ago when I would listen to his beautiful recitation on YouTube, being so moved by his tilawah and amazed by his khushu’ in Salah. But little did I know that one day I would pray behind him and hear him LIVE! Alhamdulillah, all praise due to Allah for his countless favors.

As the time for Isha Salah crept in, we hopped into the car, determined to find the masjid he was leading in. A few friends had told us that the old Qatari masjid he led in last year was completely demolished, and now Al-Rajhi masjid had become his new headquarters. But I wouldn’t believe it until I saw it. After several minutes of driving in circles, we came across what I assumed was the all-new Al-Rajhi masjid. The architecture was simply spectacular! Needless to say, the masjid was huge! Just the parking lot seemed to go on for miles, and it was jam-packed! I instantly rolled down my window, straining to hear the Imam’s voice, hoping it was Shaikh Muhaisny.

Say: Lo! my worship and my sacrifice and my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the Worlds. He has no partner. This am I commanded, and I am first of those who surrender (unto Him). (Surah Al An’aam)

And indeed, it was! Oh the joy we all felt to hear him again. As his recitation continued through the last verses of Surah Al-An’aam, I strode through the huge parking lot and headed towards the masjid. My eyes welled up with tears realizing how much I craved this recitation. Recordings and YouTube videos could never pacify my thirst for a recitation that would shake my heart, overcome my eyes, and soothe my ears. And Alhamdulillah, I found it!

By the time I entered the masjid, I could hear the whole congregation in tears as the Shaikh recited:

The weighing on that day is the true (weighing). As for those whose scale is heavy, they are the successful.  And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they disbelived Our revelations.

Subhanallah, I stood in awe at the level of Khushu’ the Shaikh had, and his ability to move the hearts of those with him. A true gift from Allah much too seldom in today’s world!
