Over the years, I’ve experimented with things that help alleviate stress and perfume is so far number one on my list. Rose, in particular.
In Ibn Al Qayyim’s “Healing With the Medicine of the Prophet”, he says,
“The Messenger of Allah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said,
حبب إلي من دنياكم النساء و الطيب و جعلت قرة عيني في الصلاة
“From your world, women and perfume were made beloved to me and the comfort of my eye is the prayer.” (Ahmad and Nasa’i)
The Messenger of Allah salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam used to frequently use perfume and did not like foul odors.
Perfume is the fuel of the soul, which is the engine of the powers of the body. Therefore, various strengths and powers in the body are nurtured in the presence of perfume. Similarly, the powers of the body are nurtured by consuming food and drink, feeling comfort and elation, being close to loved ones, receiving good news and by the absence of hateful, disliked persons whose persons weakens the strength and causes sadness and depression, just as the effects that fever and foul odors have on the body.
In short, perfume was one of the dearest objects to the Prophet of Allah salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. It also has a good effect on preserving good health and removing many ailments because it arouses the power of the body.”
Benefit #1- He valued women intellectually and socially
Benefit #2- He valued perfume and the neatness/purity it pertains to
Benefit #3- He would turn to prayer every time he felt heavy hearted and burdened
Try it. Spritz on a light, clean perfume, close your eyes and inhale deeply. It’ll make a world of a difference.
